Beautiful Imperfections
Have you watched this new TVC?
Another of Yasmin Ahmad's production. :) I love her works.
It always touches my heart.
After I first heard her talk at one of the new media seminars which I attended, I immediately went back and googled for her works in Malaysia.
My favourite was:
I liked her very simple thread of thought which is being conveyed through very heartwarming storylines. A single message and a very simple storyline, which is able to touch the hearts of masses. Not easy at all.
This time, there's a social media campaign together by MCYS (Think Family) with the launch of this TVC (the last was Family). There's a facebook competition to find the Beautifully Imperfect Couple. It's pretty interesting to see how the mechanism works and how it ends. It is using the 'like' mechanism of the facebook platform as a voting mechanism. The more people who liked your submission, the higher chance you'll win the contest.

My First BlogOut!
We went for the BlogOut! organized by The Digital Movement yesterday. It was the second portion of BlogOut (Day 2), the Open Track, free for all. :P
Here are some interesting findings gathered at the event:
Claudia Lim next shared on some blogging tools she have used to enhance her blogging experience. There are of course, several blogging platforms, we can use, other than the usual ones like blogspot (yup, I am using blogspot!), wordpress, there are also Tumblr (microblog) and Posterous (blogging through email! interesting, worth checking out.) And the various blog aggregators to participate in:
Then Claudia brought up the point on: Multiple Blogs vs A Single Blog with Many Interests (classified by different categories). Which do you prefer? Currently, I am doing the latter. Consolidating all my interests under one roof, which is QQ Sandbox. Multiple blogs seem clearer, cleaner, since all of us has multiple interests, it makes sense to separate all these interests into different blogs. Different interests attract different audiences. But, that also means several more times of time, energy and effort to maintain the other blogs. Can you ensure continuous content for all these blogs?
Howie Chang, President of The Digital Movement, had the final sharing at the BlogOut session yesterday. He shared with us the book "Subject to Change: Creating Great Products and Services for an Uncertain World" and how design greatly influence the takeup of a product or service.

Here are some interesting findings gathered at the event:
Preetam Rai gave a very light-hearted sharing on his experiences as a traveler blogger, and the tools he used to enhance his traveling experiences (eg. Food, lodging, company of locals). One of which is to collect local intelligence first, before you travel, and here are some tools:
- Meetups – for eg. I’m planning for a trip to Japan, I can attend meetups to get to know some Japanese.
- Global Voices - It aggregates news, blogs, etc from many sources for several countries, and shares these on one site. Text is also translated from the native language to English. Very convenient for English readers like us who aren't multilinguals :P I'm especially interested in this. Mmm...
- Barcamps - Go for barcamps hosted at the destination countries. These are great opportunities to know more people. You can go for impromptu sharings which ranges from very lifestyle topics to very geeky topics.
Share a very funny anectote from Preetnam: his Japanese gal-friend had shared on "How to date Japanese Girls" at one of the barcamps, so he suggested for the girls out there, they can share on such genre, just interchange with the 'race'. For guys, they can just transform the sharing session to a discussion session instead "How to date Japanese girls?" since such topics are a sure-draw from the mass crowds. Haha :D... I was pretty tickled by that.
Lester Chan, an enthusiast of Wordpress has created many plugins (free!) to share with Wordpress users. At his session, he compared the two: Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com. Wordpress.com is the free version, abide minus the limited functionalities. Perhaps, I might give it a try eventually. It feels like a Content Management System to me though.
Anyway, the topic of free plugins also provided a lead-in to the next topic after lunch. Jon Yongfook has asked Lester if he would to choose, would he prefer a million free downloads of his plugins or 30 (arbituary number) revenue generating downloads of his premium plugins. if you were Lester, which would you pick?
This then leads us to "Fire Your Boss! Ways You Can Turn Your Blog into a Business in 2009". Jon Yongfook brought up an important point
"Advertising is not a way to monetize your blog, but someone else to monetize your blog."
That's an enlightenment, at least to me, as when I think of turning a blog to a business, one of the first baby steps I would think of is ads. Ads on my blog. But, seriously, ad revenue is really low, and it is like what Yongfook has shared, the winner is actually the companies which are really selling the products and services, and using the blogs as another avenue to advertise and push their products or services.

Standard Chartered building was on fire!
Did you know that this morning a fire broke out in the Standard Chartered building?
I got to know about it when my colleague alerted me about a plurk thread.
It even carries a picture of the scene taken by a handphone!
The power of social media.
You don't have to be there to receive first hand news.
Now, that's citizen journalism.

I've just plurked!
After hearing the nth time from Vic
on how entertaining plurk can be,
I decided to give it a try.
And...
Yup, my plurk account is created.
Plurk is a microblogging tool.
Basically you can 'blogged' whatever you like in 140 characters.
You can comment on your friends' microblogs
and it becomes a conversation.
Mmm...
it is somewhat like how the 'notes' in facebook functions.
We are still having lively conversations
on friends' notes. :P
I've tried twitter before plurk.
But it is a lonely experience.
I did not have any 'followers' nor did I actively 'followed' anyone.
Mainly I used twitter as a status update tool
for facebook and blog.
Let's see if I will have more fun @ plurk,
as this article has said.

Little Nonya
Have you watched the latest Channel 8 serial - 小娘惹?
Together with the serial, there are a series of new media initiatives accompanying the serial. For instance, behind-the-scenes videos, interviews with selected casts, and even 番外篇.
Usually 番外篇 are packaged as SPs in japanese serials or as MTVs for taiwanese serials, especially for the theme songs. 番外篇 also usually refers to future developments or alternative storylines using the same cast/ main characters.
However in this case, it's different. Rather than calling the videos 番外篇, perhaps 落网镜头 is more appropriate, as these are actually bits and pieces which supports the main story, what it is airing now.
I liked their arrangement of the videos, the 情 series, which covers various types of love: 爱情，怨情，主仆情，师徒情。。。This also shows that the story is all encompassing, and not just on BGR and family politics.
Nevertheless, it would have been wonderful if these videos were really 落网镜头, shots cut from the original serial, and repackaged as the 情 series. From observation, these videos were taken separately, and not at the same set.
But anyway, I enjoy the 番外篇 and would be staying tune to catch all 20 of them. :)

Sharing of Feeds Time 3
Sharing of feeds time again...
Don't you envy kids at times
especially their bravery in attempting new areas?
Like their lack of fear of falling/ injury/ death
when they learn cycling, swimming, rollerblading etc
How I wish I can go back time
and learn all these tricks when I'm younger
and not so afraid of pain and scars :P

Besides the bravery that children has,
what else can we learn from the little ones?

1st Live Blogging Exp @Breathe
We tried live blogging at Breathe yesterday night during the launch of Breathe.
It was a first for me,
though technically, I am not the blogger,
but as part of the team:
running as a "paparazzi" and photo uploader,
anyway it was as much fun :)
The "paparazzi" bit reminded me of the last event I covered
which was also at Padang.
That was the announcement of the YOG results.
懐かしいです！
Nevertheless, it's really quite an experience,
think I've become quite apt at selecting photos,
enhancing, cropping, resizing and uploading to flickr,
after the night of training.
LOL.
Here're some sneaks:
I've missed milo from milo trucks terribly after I left school.
Milo from milo trucks to me is always associated to sports, as every sports day, there'll be milo truck to look forward to.
I was so glad to spot one at the event!

1st Podcamp Experience
I went to Podcamp v2.0 yesterday
that's my 1st time at podcamp, an unconference
(I'm still trying to understand the concept of unconference - that's my first too :P)
I went primarily for the podcasting bit
as I am working on a podcast - NutriLine Podcast
and a possibly new podcast
coming soon... (next FY?)
Tech65 presented on their podcast experience - 65bits
It was pretty insightful
There was a lively discussion
on content, how to deliver, how to get listeners participation, how they kept it going, etc
And they recorded their 95th episode there
live recording!
waiting for their latest episode on that :)
Some other notable bits:
Melvin's sharing on the boliao bits which made it big due to social media
literally boliao...
like this story:
whereby a guy documented live on ustream
when his obama signs were stolen repeatedly, he decided to put up a webcam to watch over his signs
and that was streamed live 24/7 on ustream
and surprisingly
it created CHAOS (Citizens Hanging Around Obama Sign)
with their own wiki entry!
And Walter's sharing on yesterday.sg
how it grew from an experiental blog to a successful blog supported by heritage enthusiasts
And a lively discussion on engagement of bloggers & blogger ethics by Brian
Remembered this line vividly:
"Reputation begets authority, and translates to influence"
Yea..
And of course, in turn agencies will look for these popular and reputable bloggers for engagement purposes- to influence!
